In optics, a prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. A dispersive prism can be used to break light up into its constituent spectral colors.

The idea behind ‘Prismatic Spectrum' is a single united material (the light), which is dispersed into a spectrum of colors. The piece starts with a rich gesture, which is nonetheless united.  After this first gesture, each section of the piece develops some material taken from the first gesture. Each of the different sections has a different character, similar to the different colors that can be projected through the prism.

My piece can be viewed as the process of passing a musical fragment through a prism.
